How Nomad started
Built by a driver who hated the hub
Rafael Montgomery spent eleven years hauling other companies' household goods across the country. He watched shipments sit in transfer warehouses for a week, get re-stacked onto new trailers and arrive with broken table legs and missing boxes.
In 2009 he bought two used tractors, rented a corner of a warehouse on Bishop Lane and made a simple promise: one home per truck, one crew from pickup to delivery, and a price in writing. Seventeen years later, Nomad runs 31 trucks, a climate-controlled vault facility and satellite crews in Nashville and Indianapolis.
The promise has not changed. Neither has the dispatch number, which Rafael still answers himself on Sunday afternoons.
